Mindstones Tournament

HITG Legacy Cup

Eight teams representing Head in the Game legacy projects took part in a 6-a-side tournament at the Gallagher Stadium on Sunday 21 July.

The tournament was organised and hosted by MindStones, the Stones in the Community mental health football scheme. MindStones fielded three teams and were joined by two teams from Monday Night Footy (Sevenoaks) and one team each from Medway United MH Network Legacy, Talking Goals Sittingbourne, and the Head in the Game coaches.

The matches were played in a spirit of friendly competitiveness and camaraderie, watched by a decent sized crowd who saw some great goals and good football being played.

All three MindStones teams made it to the semi-finals, where MindStones II lost on penalties to Head in the Game and MindStones I narrowly beat MindStones III.

MindStones I went on to win the tournament beating Head in the Game 2-0 in the final, and received the inaugural HITG Legacy Cup.

The tournament strengthened the links between MindStones and the other Head in the Game legacy projects, united by the common aims of using football as a way to encourage participants to improve their mental and physical fitness, to raise awareness of suicide, and to reduce the stigma around mental health.

We’re looking forward to making this a regular event and doing it all again next summer!

Are you passionate about helping your community?

We are always looking for volunteers to help us make our vision a reality. People who volunteer often report better physical health than nonvolunteers and research has also shown that volunteering leads to lower rates of depression and anxiety.
We’ll help you find a way to volunteer that best suits you and would be excited to have you join our team.
