WalkingSTONES go dutch

A great night of football, and a rematch on the horizon

WalkingSTONES welcome dutch visitors for an evening of football and friendship.

WalkingSTONES were delighted to host Dutch visitors vv TSC for a special round‑robin evening of walking football, featuring two home teams (Ambers and Whites). Each team played one another once, with the WalkingSTONES Whites ultimately finishing as winners on the night.

But the real victory had nothing to do with the scoreboard.

The evening was all about shared enjoyment: playing the game we all love, followed by plenty of post‑match camaraderie over beer, sandwiches, and pizza. What began as a simple enquiry turned into an unforgettable cross‑border football get‑together.

How It All Started

The connection was first made back in October 2025, when vv TSC emailed the WalkingSTONES inbox asking whether we’d be interested in arranging a match during their planned visit to the UK.

Jack the organiser on the TSC side had been to Maidstone before and  taken in a game at the Gallagher Stadium watching the Stones take on Woking. Keen to connect with local Walking Footballers, he reached out… and apparently received a reply just seven minutes later confirming we’d be happy to host them!

From there, the plan was set in motion. A big thanks goes out to Steve Bunn and Bill Green who orgaised the evening and our referee Jay Gerrish who kept everyone inline.

About vv TSC Walking Football

vv TSC Warandelaan in Oosterhout run one of the more active Walking Football programmes in the south of the Netherlands. A few highlights:

  • Part of the NAC OldStars Walking Football Network, a collaboration of ten clubs.
  • Sessions every Wednesday morning, 10:30–11:45.
  • Led by Frans de Jong, former professional footballer.
  • A strong social focus with post‑session coffee seen as vital as the football itself.

Looking Ahead

The evening captured everything Walking Football stands for: sport, community, and connection across borders. After such a successful night, both clubs are now in early discussions about arranging the return leg in Holland — giving the WalkingSTONES a chance to experience vv TSC’s hospitality, Dutch football culture, and perhaps even sample their post‑match coffee tradition for ourselves.
